NGOs in India – A study of history, roles and future challenges

A 1991 report by Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA) gives great insights about the history and evolution of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in India. A study spread over 30 months from 1987 to 1990, conceptualizes the role of NGOs as promoters of development, catalysts of social change and as mechanisms for popular participation in influencing the public policy. Although the report is more than 2 decades old, it gives a comprehensive understanding about NGOs in India.
